Why Your Car Still Smells Bad After You’ve Used an Air Freshener?

Hot take: if your car smells like coffee, food, smoke or gym bags and you’re just spraying more fragrance over it, you’re not actually fixing the problem.

You’re basically creating “pizza + vanilla + yesterday’s smoke” and hoping nobody notices.

That’s the problem with a lot of regular car perfumes. They’re designed to add fragrance, not necessarily deal with the odour that’s already sitting in the cabin.

Smoke is probably the worst offender. It gets into seats, carpets and other surfaces, so even after you’ve aired the car out, that smell can hang around.

This is why I think car odour eliminators deserve more attention. Something like Wagenlov’s Kill Smoke and Kill Odor is meant for the actual odour problem rather than simply masking it with another scent.

Then you can add a proper car perfume once the cabin is actually fresh.

It sounds obvious, but there’s a big difference between:

“My car smells strongly.”

and

“My car actually smells clean.”

And honestly, I’ll take the second one every time.
